Dermatophilus congolensis: Smear preparation of a skin scraping showing the beaded appearance of the bacterium
The smear shows the presence of single strands of a Gram-posiive, filamentous, mycelial-like growth, caused by the budding of zoospores that impart a beaded appearance to the bacterial growth. These filaments also divide laterally producing filaments with a number of rows of zoospores.
